Me, My Selfies And I is an ongoing series of large-format digital drawings exploring queer self-liberation, visibility, and the freedom to inhabit one’s own body. Each drawing is based on a real photo and created during moments of waiting—while waiting for the laundry to finish, during delayed train journeys, or on bus and train rides. These everyday intervals become quiet spaces for reflection and artistic production.
Created in “exile”, the series celebrates freedoms that were impossible for me as a queer artist growing up in Iraq, while also reminding us that these freedoms should never be taken for granted. Through intimate self-portraits, the works reclaim the body as a site of pride, vulnerability, and resistance.
